Day 238 Harvesting Scapes

scapes We took a break this evening and harvested some scapes. They are these whimsical looking shoots coming out of some of our garlic that was planted last fall. Scapes don't grow on all garlic, only certain kinds, and the "porcelain" garlic we have made the biggest scapes. (we think, we don't label things and are always guessing) From what we read it's a bonus picking them because you get some food and the garlic gets to grow bigger by not feeding it's scape. Tomorrow we will be making a scape pesto sauce and throwing it over some pasta, maybe we'll add some broccoli also, we'll see.
